Passionate about her monogram from an early age, Cynthia Brumback is the owner of The Monogram Merchant, a high-end ecommerce and retail business focused on personalized gifts and accessories.  Helping her clients celebrate the important people and occasions in their lives, Cynthia works with celebrities, professional athletes, congressmen and senators to put their personal touch on weddings, interiors and special events.  Prior to the Monogram Merchant, Cynthia worked for Fortune 500 companies and in political roles at the White House and the U.S. Department of Commerce.  She graduated from Vanderbilt University and the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern.

Cynthia Brumback has been in the monogram business for over a decade.  Cynthia’s passion for monogramming stems from her upbringing as she explains in the introduction of the book. “Monogramming is second nature to me, having grown up in a family where it has always been a distinct part of our traditions.”

With the arrival of her book, Cynthia has toured the United States sharing The Art of the Monogram. Beginning with a 6 city Lilly Pulitzer store book tour, Cynthia has done book signings and spoken to both intimate and large groups. Her entertaining presentation imparts fascinating information about the history of the monogram with humorous personal anecdotes.

The Art of the Monogram is a collection of fascinating stories and photographs of monograms through the ages. Since their introduction in the 8th Century when Charlemagne marked his royal initials throughout conquered Europe, monograms have appeared in all manner of places as a bespoke form of personal expression. King Henry VIII monogrammed his armor for battle. Winston Churchill fancied monogrammed slippers. And Taylor Swift has used a stylized monogram to adorn her concert sets. George Vanderbilt personalized every element of his beloved Biltmore with his monogram. Hundreds of beautiful images from over thirteen centuries illuminate the passion for the monogram.

The City of Houston was one of three locations where the book’s pictures were photographed, featuring several local businesses and families.

What people are saying:

“This book combines art and history in a beautifully inspiring way. It is proof that gracious living is still possible in our big box, mass market world.”

“What a sensual experience to spend an hour experiencing the rich, historical, and professional photographs in this lovely book. Anyone who loves history will appreciate the surprises that Ms Brumback has shared here. Anyone who loves the look and personalization of monograms will want to own this book.”

“Author Cynthia Brumback, owner of The Monogram Merchant, has written a beautiful and comprehensive book on the subject. The Art of the Monogram covers both a style and historical based look at how monograms play a vital role in the design of special occasions, entertaining, personal style, gracious living, home furnishings and the lives of royalty. Readers will also find the chapter on Monogram Etiquette most useful, particularly in a situation when faced with dilemmas such as same sex couples, singles and divorced women.”
